India’s Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has given a statement regarding the situation in Afghanistan and the Taliban occupation there. Speaking at the event of ‘The India-US Partnership: Securing the 21st Century’ in Delhi, he said that what happened in Afghanistan was something that was expected in advance, the only difference is in time.

CDS Bipin Rawat said in the event that from the Indian point of view, we were anticipating the Taliban’s occupation of Afghanistan. He further said that, ‘The timeline has surprised us as we were expecting that maybe after a few months it might happen. But it is largely the same, the same Taliban that was there 20 years ago.

CDS Rawat has also said that we will ensure that we deal with any problem coming from Afghanistan to India in the same way as we deal with terrorism. He further said that we are moving forward there according to the strategy. Strategically we are in a very strong position and the Indian Army is fully prepared to face any kind of situation.

General Rawat described the situation in Afghanistan and the Indo-Pacific region separately and said that these two should not be seen through the same lens. He said that yes, ‘it is true that there is a security threat to India from neighboring countries on both the areas. But these two are different issues. It is difficult for these two to meet each other.
