National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) Foundation Day is being celebrated across the country today. It is celebrated every year on 12 October. On the occasion of 28th Foundation Day of NHRC, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the program through video conference today. He said that India has always put human rights first and it is a matter of good fortune for all of us that today through Amrit Mahotsav we are taking a pledge to live up to the values and ideals of Mahatma Gandhi.
In his address, Prime Minister Modi also targeted his opponents and said that in the name of human rights some people are trying to malign the image of the country. He further said that human rights are severely violated when they are viewed with political colors, political prism and weighed with the scales of political profit and loss.
Even after Independence, our constitution gave a new perspective on equality to the world. In the past decades, the world has been distracted so many times but India remained committed to its principles…: PM Modi at 28th NHRC Foundation Day pic.twitter.com/M9hrCi1skV

Prime Minister Modi further said that such selective behavior is harmful for democracy as well. In recent years, some people have started interpreting human rights in their own way, looking at their benefits. In the same type of incident, some people see human rights violations and in some other similar incident the same people do not see human rights violations.
Prime Minister Modi further said that our movement for freedom, our history is a great source of inspiration for human rights for India and its values. We fought for our rights for centuries. As a nation, as a society, have resisted injustice and atrocities. He further said that today the country is running on the basic mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’. In a way, this is the basic spirit of ensuring human rights.
