Through the National Defense Academy (NDA), the daughters of the country will also be able to join the armed forces and serve the country. Expressing his views on this historic initiative, Indian Army Chief General MM Naravane said that women will also perform as well as male cadets. He described this initiative as the first step towards gender equality.
Army Chief General MM Naravane, in his address during the review of the passing out parade of NDA’s 141st course in Pune, said, “As we move forward, we will induct women cadets into NDA and I am sure they will outnumber male cadets.” Will do well. This is the first step towards gender equality and the Army has always been at the forefront of all such initiatives in the country.
MM Naravane further addressed the cadets said, “As we are opening NDA doors for women cadets, I hope you all will welcome them in the same fair and professional manner as the Indian Armed Forces have received around the world”. He further said that after a few years such an opportunity will come, when we will see women in the army standing in their equal positions.

Regarding the training of women in the Armed Forces, the Army Chief said that the infrastructure for training of women will be slightly different, but they will also be given the same training as is given to a male cadet. He further said that NDA has always been the foremost institution of the Indian Armed Forces. But as we mature, our curriculum has changed, our training methods have changed, we have become better trained and better equipped to face whatever challenges may arise in the future.
In the month of September, the Central Government informed the Supreme Court that a decision has been taken to allow women to join the armed forces through NDA. Earlier, the Supreme Court in its interim order has also allowed women to appear in the NDA exam on a temporary basis.
