Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the 18th ASEAN-India Summit today. Referring to India’s strong relations with ASEAN countries during his address, he said that India has old relations with ASEAN countries. History has witnessed that India and ASEAN have had vibrant relations for thousands of years. Whose glimpses are seen in our shared values, traditions, culture, languages, texts, architecture and food.

Addressing the conference, Prime Minister Modi said that the unity and centrality of ASEAN have always been an important priority for India. Mutual relations have strengthened even during the Corona period. This challenging time was also a test of friendship between India and ASEAN. Expressing further confidence, he said that our mutual cooperation during the Corona period will continue to strengthen our relations in the future also and will become the basis of goodwill between our people.

 

Prime Minister Modi further said that the world is still battling the Corona pandemic and India has faced many challenges during the Corona period. After this pandemic, many important regional and international developments including economic recovery will also be brainstormed. He further said that ‘Next year is completing 30 years of our partnership and at the same time 75 years of India’s independence will also be completed next year. It gives me immense pleasure that we will celebrate this important milestone as the “Year of ASEAN-India Friendship”.

Prime Minister Modi has also congratulated Sultan Hassanal Bolkhi of Brunei for chairing the ASEAN Summit this year. He also said that India has always followed the principles of ASEAN with utmost sincerity. The 18th ASEAN-India Summit is focused on important issues including the corona epidemic, international development, businesses.
