The Ministry of Power has shared important information regarding the status of coal stocks and production in power plants in the country. The Ministry of Power has said that 5,722 crore units of electricity have been consumed in the country in the first fortnight of October. This consumption is 3.35 percent more than the consumption in the same period of the year 2020. The ministry has also said that these figures are indicating improvement in production at power plants amid shortage of coal.

According to the report of a leading daily, electricity consumption in the month of September has been 11,435 crore units. This is an increase of 1.7 percent over the previous year. The slow improvement in production this year is attributed to heavy rains in September. Experts believe that after the efforts made by the Government of India to improve coal supply, both production and consumption will improve.

According to the report, 152 million tonnes of coal was imported in August this year. This is 2.7 percent less than the month of August last year. The reason for this is believed to be the rising prices of coal in the international market. Along with this, the increase in domestic production is also one of the reasons.

According to Coal India, most of the companies are increasing their dependence on Indian coal, due to which the demand for domestic coal has also increased. recently, the Ministry of Power has asked the states to use unallocated power and at the same time has also instructed not to sell electricity outside at exorbitant prices. Also, the ministry has asked all the states to use unallocated power for supplying electricity to their consumers.
