The Supreme Court today said that the CBI report on the use of toxic chemicals in the manufacture of firecrackers is very serious. According to a leading daily report, the Supreme Court told that the CBI has found harmful chemicals like barium salt in the seized material. It also said that prima facie there has been violation of court orders in the use of barium and labeling of firecrackers.

According to the report, the Supreme Court took a tough stand on the issue of pollution caused by firecrackers and said that we cannot leave people to die on their own terms like this. The top court noted that producers like Hindustan Fireworks and Standard Fireworks have also procured large quantities of barium and used it for manufacturing crackers.

A bench of Justices MR Shah and AS Bopanna gave one more opportunity to the firecracker manufacturers to present their stand on this report. The bench further directed that a copy of each of the preliminary inquiry report of the CBI be made available to all the lawyers concerned by Thursday. The Supreme Court will now hear the matter next on October 6.

Justice MR Shah, during the hearing of the matter, rejected the argument of firecracker manufacturers that thousands of people earn their livelihood from the cracker industry, we have to strike a balance between employment, unemployment, right to life and health of citizens.
