Kishtwar Cloudburst: Cloud bursts in Jammu’s Kishtwar, seven people died, rescue operation continues

These days nature is showing its formidable form in different areas of the country. Heavy rain is wreaking havoc on the hilly areas of the country. Flood occurred in Kishtwar district of Jammu division of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir this morning following a cloudburst. According to the report of a leading news agency, six houses and a ration store in Hunjar village of the area have been washed away in the floods. About 40 people are reported to be missing. So far, bodies of seven people have been found and 17 people have been rescued. Army, Police, SDRF and local people are engaged in rescue and relief work on a war footing.

According to the report, the rescue operation is being carried out on a large scale by SDRF, Army and Police. SDRF team is carrying out rescue operation in Kishtwar. But the weather is posing a challenge for the rescue teams from Jammu, Udhampur and Srinagar to reach the spot. The airlifting of the teams is being hampered due to bad weather.

 

 

SDRF Director General of Police VK Singh has told that 60 families have been shifted to safer places. Rescue teams are busy on the spot. Efforts are also being made to send teams to many other places. On the other hand, the Meteorological Department has also predicted heavy rains. Due to heavy rains and cloudburst in Kishtwar, the water level of most of the rivers has increased. This has also affected the water bodies.

Apart from Kishtwar, there has also been a cloudburst in two villages of Kargil district of Ladakh. Some houses and mini hydroelectric projects have been damaged. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah are keeping a close watch on the situation at both the places. Prime Minister Modi has told on social media that the central government is keeping a close watch on the situation there. He has assured all possible help from the government.
