Tata Digital Limited has acquired a major stake in the online grocery store BigBasket. This information is given in a statement issued by Tata Digital. The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has already approved the acquisition of 64.3 per cent of the total shares of Tata Digital Limited in BigBasket’s wholesale unit Supermarket Grocery Supply Private Limited.

Tata Digital has not revealed the value of the deal in its statement. With this deal, Tata Digital has prepared itself in direct competition with a number of e-commerce giants to expand its online grocery delivery footprint. E-grocery is the fastest growing in the country due to the lockdown and restrictions imposed after the Corona pandemic.

BigBasket CEO Hari Menon also said that after joining with the Tata group we are very excited about our future. Talking about BigBasket, it was established in 2011 in Bangalore. Since then the company operates in more than 25 cities in the country and has the largest assortment of more than 50,000 stock keeping units (SKUs).
